The Power of CBD

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a chemical compound that gives marijuana it’s healing properties. Without CBD, using marijuana as a medicine would not be accepted as it is today. Unfortunately, many places throughout the world have not legalized medical use of marijuana or even CBD by itself. In places where marijuana is legal, CBD isolates (such as candy, oil, cream, capsules, etc.) are used to treat ailments such as epilepsy, chronic pain, anxiety and depression, inflammation, arthritis, Alzheimers disease, Parkinson’s disease, and cancer-related symptoms such as nausea and loss of appetite, to name a few. Studies are also now being done which claim it can be taken proactively to help maintain heart health and fend off neurological disorders. A problem that is facing us today is that people who can benefit from CBD the most are unable to access it, due to archaic laws.

Real world examples of this include people who suffer from epilepsy, which is the condition CBD is most notorious for successfully treating. Certain countries have not legalized CBD or cannabis, which has proven extremely problematic for people who could benefit from CBD to treat epilepsy. A famous example of this is Chelsea and Tamsin Leyland, who are sisters that are affected by epilepsy. Chelsea lives in New York and is legally able to obtain CBD to successfully treat her epilepsy. However, her sister Tamsin lives in the UK, where the laws surrounding marijuana and CBD are not as modernized as New York. Therefore Tamsin is unable to successfully treat her epilepsy, despite consuming a plethora of pharmaceutical drugs. People such as Billy Caldwell, an 11 year old boy who suffers from a lethal form of epilepsy, have been paving the way for CBD legalization and promoting the use of CBD to treat epilepsy. Even though Billy is only 11, he has shown the world how powerful CBD really is. After suffering more than 100 seizures daily, Billy was taken off pharmaceuticals and instead given CBD oil as treatment. More than 300 days later, Billy has not had a single seizure. This goes to show the power that CBD has, especially when you consider the fact that it has less side effects than high potency anti-seizure pharmaceuticals. Not only are people catching on to the fact that CBD treats epilepsy better than pharmaceuticals, but so are the pharmaceutical companies. Greenwich Biosciences is a pharmaceutical company that has just gained FDA approval of a drug called Epidiolex, which utilizes CBD to treat a few severe forms of Epilepsy, two of which are known as Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome. This is a really big deal due to the fact that marijuana or CBD has never been used as an FDA approved medication, until now. As Epidiolex gains credibility and user-based feedback, it should only encourage more and more people that marijuana is a viable medication that deserves full-scale legalization. Not only will this improve our knowledge and understanding of medicine, but it will help countless people who are currently unable to legally obtain life saving CBD based medication.

Now that CBD has entered the limelight and captured the attention of the public, we will hopefully see an increase in people who trade in high strength pharmaceutical drugs with CBD based medication that has the potential to heal them with little to no side effects. The main goal of CBD is to treat many ailments as naturally as possible, and it does an extremely good job of doing so. Do you have an ailment that you believe CBD could treat? We encourage you to look into your local laws and determine if any store around you sells CBD based products. They may just have the ability to transform your life!
